Breast Cancer Support Quilts

We received a thank you letter from THE QUILT, for our donation of our Five Patch Cross cancer quilt. This year the project received 467 quilts, bringing the total number of donations in the last eight years to 3,087 quilts. Many of the quilts will be on display in the Stratford Exhibition from May 4th to November 16th at 55 Downie Street, next to the Avon Theatre. Other quilts will be traveling east & west across Canada, hosted by La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries. Our quilt WEST B 464 - Five Patch Cross will be shown as part of the Western Traveling Show and will be sold at the Calgary Auction in November. All of the quilts will be displayed on-line with bidding starting on May 3rd, 2007. Please check out this website at www.thequilt.com.

Souvenir showguides for 2007 are available for our guild members at the special price of $8, taxes and shipping included. If you are interested in ordering a copy, please sign up at tonight's meeting or call Brenda Wauchope at 705-436-5388.

2008: Vintage Dresden Plate
Thank you to those who have already completed their blocks for this cancer quilt. Out of 20 blocks, I have received 13 so far. The deadline for these is the June meeting. Then we can start putting the blocks together in order to meet next year's deadline.

2004: Periwinkle Pinwheel
This year KQG was fortunate to have received a wonderful donation of quilt blocks to use for our quilt! Using the 'quilt-as-you-go' method, the quilt was quickly assembled.

2003: Helping Hands
This wonderful quilt block called 'Helping Hands' was designed by Brenda Wauchope. Fifty blocks were received and the top was completed by Brenda. Once again the efforts of Cheryl Westlake and Debra Graham were much appreciated for the machine quilting and binding. Helping Hands Blocks

2002: Log Cabin

A 9" log cabin block with traditional red centres was completed by members creating 56 blocks in total. Brenda Wauchope assembled the quilt top which was then machine quilted by Cheryl Westlake. Debra Graham attached the binding.

2001: Nine Patch in Pinks
Members donated simple Pink (ribbon) nine-patch blocks and helped to create this quilt. Funds raised from the sale of this group quilt were allocated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Society in our community for Breast Cancer support programs.
